Weekly Sweats: A Non Sponsored (lol) Thred Up Haul

In this week's adventures: 26 incredible miles of running (8 of them outdoors!) and I turned to Thred Up for a fitness wardrobe refresh.

I'm linking up with the Weekly Run Down, please head over to Kim and Deborah to check it out.

First up, let's look at this week's sweats:

Monday: 4 easy treadmill miles

Tuesday: 5 treadmill miles.  That's one mile warm up, then a ladder of 1-2-3-4-5-4-3-2-1 minutes fast/2 minutes recover.

Wednesday: no running, weights at lunch

Thursday: 5 treadmill miles.  One mile warm up then a ladder of 1-2-3-2-1 minutes fast/2 minutes recover, repeated enough times to get to 5 miles.

Friday: 4 treadmill hill miles.  This is always the workout that I dread each week but it went by in a heartbeat and I felt great afterwards.

Saturday: 8 outside miles!  We had a thaw toward the end of the week that melted off the remains of last week's ice storm and I was delighted to break the January Mole Fitness streak and get above ground and outside.

Normally I don't go into detail on paces for weekly runs, but normally I don't bust out 11:19 paced 8 milers either, so I'm going to shout it out.

My everyday outdoor running pace is a 12 minute mile.  Lately I've been pushing it a bit on my long runs.  To clarify, I'm not killing myself but I'm also not taking it easy.  I gave myself a bit of an advantage with a flat route (the primary motivation there was safety, because there's still a bit of snow on the ground and while the route wasn't the most exciting it also was very low traffic)

This run was:

4 miles warmup
2 miles of 0.1 miles fast/0.1 miles recover (no pace goal other than being fast but not too fast)
2 miles cool down

My goals for this run were to push myself, try to be faster than my last outdoor 8 miler, and to get a sub 11 minute final mile.  Check, check, and check. Because of the way I set up the workout on my Garmin, I couldn't see my paces for miles 5, 6, or 8 until the workout was finished.

Sunday: off, apart from trying on a bunch of Thred Up workout clothes.

A Non Sponsored Thred Up Haul

Ima speak my mind on workout clothes.  It's not accurate to say that I'm cheap, but it is accurate to say that I'm picky about what I drop my money on.  If you take a look at my fitness wardrobe, you'll see All The Target and All The Old Navy.  You'll also see a few nicer brands that I've picked up from Thred Up over the years.  While I am willing to spend All the Money on race entry fees and somewhere in the $100 range for shoes, hell to the no on spending more than $20 on any other item of fitness clothing.  I mean I sweat on this stuff.

Thred Up can be hit or miss, sometimes the inventory is lean and sometimes what is pictured on the internet is a bit different IRL...some Thred Up items are final sale (and clearly marked that way) but most can be returned for credit and I'm ruthless about returning anything that I don't adore.

I went hog wild and ordered 5 tanks, 5 shorts, and 1 pair of leggings in the hope that I would end up with 1-2 good tanks and shorts and return the rest.  And I'm sorry not sorry to report that I will be keeping most of my haul.  I had a blend of items that were described as "you might mistake it for brand new" and "minor wear", but with one exception everything looked brand new.

First up, let's be super nosy and check out the bottom line for 11 Nike & Saucony items.
The discount was a Thred Up promo code. For reference, I'm 5'5" and 140#, small top/big bottom.  Based on life experience, that translates to small tops at Target and Old Navy but I knew from a past Thred Up experience that in the Sacouny world I'm not a small, and I gambled that I would be a medium.  I have a number of medium Nike 4" shorts, so that's was my criteria for short sizing.

What you need to know: the colors shown in the Thred Up photos are accurate, the front camera iphone photos in my basement are not.  Also, IRL I have a head, I'm just shy about showing it on the internet.

The winners
Saucony tank, size M, $12.99

Saucony tank, size M, $13.99.

Saucony tank, size M, $16.99

Nike shorts, size M, $18.99.  I am just a bit obsessed with the yellow lining and I can't wait to wear these at a race.  Just call me sunshine drawers.

Nike shorts, size M $21.99
Nike shorts, size M $20.99.  Pink is my power color.

Saucony shorts, size M $14.99.  I've never had Saucony shorts before, they're pretty much identical to my Nike shorts except for being cheaper in the Thred Up world.

Saucony leggins, size L, $11.99.  I would have bet money that for $11.99 there was going to be something wrong with them but there isn't.  They feel like butter and I adore them.  TBD if I'll wear them for running or lounging around the house.  And yes it's an amazing coincidence the pattern is identical to one of the tanks and no I will not be wearing the two pieces together.

The Maybe
Nike shorts, size M, $21.99.  As a bigger bottomed girl, black is my friend but I also think these are just a bit bland compared to the other shorts.  It makes a lot of sense to return these and put my $21.99 toward something else, I mean thanks to Thred Up I have more shorts than I could ever need...but gah, they're so nice.

The Losers
Saucony tank, size M, $6.99.  This was clearly marked as being a final sale item and now I know why.  It's a perfectly nice top and the color is beautiful but oops it's see through which is not the look I'm going for.  TBD if I'll wear it inside only or route it to Goodwill.  For $6.99 I'm not complaining.

Saucony tank, size L, $7.99.  This is the only loser in the bunch, the material is heavy, it has a useless built in bra that adds to the bulk, and being size L it's too big (though no way to know that without trying it on).  This is the only clothing item that didn't appear brand new, and I'm sure that it was labeled that way.  It will go back to Thred Up and the $7.99 will be applied to my next order, so no loss.

Any good Thred Up haul stories out there?  Feel free to leave a link!

  1. I've never heard of Thred Up! I do Stitch Fix, although I've reached the end of my patience with the service, since they keep sending me a variation on the same theme every month. Looks like you got a bunch of nice stuff! And congrats on your 8 miler.

    1. I hear you! I did Stitch Fix a long time ago and I did get some great clothes from them but I also sent back a ton of duplicates and I never could get the message through that cold shoulder and crop tops are not my look.

  2. Nice week of running, especially that long run!!!Also a m=nice haul on all the clothing. I'm not a big spender on "top of the line" workout gear either. I don't need the big label for sweating purposes LOL

  3. I've heard of Thread Up, but have never checked it out. You got some good stuff! I really like the printed tank tops and matching capris. You should totally wear them as a set. haha! I do buy a lot of Athleta gear because I get it for almost free. I use my Old Navy credit card rewards. Sure I could buy my family more Old Navy clothes, but It's my little treat for being an awesome Mom/Wife :)

  7. Interesting peak into Thred Up. I am frugal but when my Athleta gear holds up for years, I know I got my money’s worth. I can’t wear shorts like that — the chafing! My thighs need compression to keep them in line. ;-)

    1. Ha ha true life there. My shorts don't chaf for everyday running but if I'm doing a longer race I just swipe a little deodorant on my thighs and everything's good. I've never tried compression shorts, I have a lot more to learn about the running world

  8. That's definitely a long run pace to celebrate! Well done!
I'm with you on the workout gear. I really love having nice stuff to wear and I change things up a lot. BUT most of my stuff is bought from a store here called Mr Price which is known for being really affordable. Sometimes not the best quality, but always good enough to be sweated on! Love the pink shorts and the dotted tee combo!

  10. There's a large Thred Up I'm guessing distribution center not too far from me. It looks like they sort clothing there from what I can tell. I don't think you can go in and buy stuff. Great haul though!
Great workout week too. I love that treadmill ladder and hooray for nailing that 8 miler!

  14. Frantically googling Thred Up... how have I never heard of it? I'm a big Old Navy shoppers as well (helps that there's one on my office building) though I find their bottoms to be better for non-running workouts since they never have pockets :(

    1. Oh man I am lucky that I don't work near an Old Navy, I would be in trouble!

  15. I've seen ads for Thread Up, is it just fitness stuff? Looks like you got some really great pieces! I used to use Stitch Fix but their stuff is just so expensive! I couldn't keep ordering. I'd like a service that provides some regular clothes. I'm great at picking out my own running attire (and realistically am very picky about which brands I use and love) but not so much in the regular dressing for everyday arena.

    1. Not just fitness stuff, Thred Up has everything. I find it easiest to search the clothes by brand. Everyday clothes got a lot easier with my current job, we wear jeans everyday.
