In this week's adventures: 23 miles of running/TV watching (P.S. the green thing is our fancy air mouse that I use as a remote for the laptop that's plugged into the TV). Out of six runs, three were good, one was excellent, and the other two were blah, counting down to my Christmas Eve race.
I'm linking up with the Weekly Run Down, please head over to Kim and Deborah to check it out.
Monday: 3 easy treadmill miles, weights at lunch
Tuesday: 4 treadmill miles, breakthrough day! On Tuesday I do a long-ish interval workout and I've been extending the time by a minute each week on the intervals. Last week I was at 3 x 8 minutes at 6.0, which I estimate to be my treadmill equivalent of a tempo run. This week as I closed in on 9 minutes, I knew that I was going to go for it and run 10 minute (1 miles) intervals. Final analysis: 1 mile warm up, 2 x 10 minutes/3 minute recover and then a final 5 minutes fast to get to an even 4 miles.
Wednesday: off
Thursday: 4 treadmill miles, 1 mile warmup, 3 minutes fast (6.5), 2-3 minutes recover.
Friday: 3 treadmill hill miles, and like last week, the end of my no-break streak on the treadmill. At 2.1 miles, I just needed a moment to get my head right. My hills aren't very intense (alternate one minute at 3% & 6% every quarter mile a.k.a first quarter mile 1 minute at 3% and 2nd quarter mile 1 minute at 6%, etc) but psychologically they are really tough for me.
Saturday: 6 treadmill miles. Ideally I would run outside on weekends, but it was just a tad too cold to get my head around going outside. Or I just really wanted to see the final episode of season 2 of Line of Duty, the show I raved about last week.
By the end of the first mile, I went from being the biggest fan of treadmill running to being sick to death of it. I didn't even try to do the run without breaks, I took my first after 2 miles and liked it so much that I took 2 more. All I can say about this run is it got done.
Sunday: is normally a rest day, but I have a race on Tuesday so I'll be taking Monday off. I went outside for 3 miles and it was absolutely the worst run I've had in months.
Between you and me: I'm secretly delighted that yesterday and today's runs were so tough, that's a good omen for Tuesday's race.
Anyone else feel like if they run badly on race week that it's a good sign and if they run well on race week it's a bad sign?
I've had that happen...a few bad (aka-challenging) runs, then BOOM! A great race (or excellent training run). Fingers crossed, that is what Fate has planned for you on Tuesday :-) Good luck! And, have a great Christmas!!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on your treadmill runs! Sorry for the sucky runs but I do hope you have a great race on Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree! Get those bad runs out of the way and enjoy a phenomenal race!
ReplyDeleteI hate the treadmill, so I don't know how you do it, but great job getting it done <3
That’s pretty good news that 4 of the 6 runs were good :). Good luck with the race this week!
ReplyDeleteSeems like lately I've had some bad long runs for marathon training... and I feel they were indicators of how my race was going to go! haha! I hope yours was not and you had a great race. Merry Christmas!!
ReplyDeleteI often have not so stellar runs leading up to a race day. Sometimes I think it's nerves sometimes over training. Hope you had a great race! Looking forward to hearing about it
ReplyDeleteI try to convince my self that a bad run gets that out of the way for race day, but it still stresses me out. I hope it went well for you!
ReplyDeleteI cannot run on the treadmill. It has to be really bad out for several days in a row to get me on it. I have never had a good run on it!.
ReplyDeleteSo kudos to you for running and staying sane.
