Weekly Sweats: Appetite

This week's good news: my appetite for outdoor running came back with a vengeance.  This week's bad news: my appetite for the treadmill is not quite there.  21.75 miles of running and three - count 'em - three weight workouts.

I'm linking up with the Weekly Run Down, please head over to Kim and Deborah to check it out.

Monday: usually Mondays are a bit of a drag fitness wise, but not this Monday.  I got my weights in and then headed outside for 4.25 miles.  I've been keeping my mileage low and was only planning on 3ish miles but once I got there my body called for an extra one.  I don't believe that I've ever run outside on the Winter Solstice before (unless by coincidence if it's been on Saturday), and now I think it's going to need to be a tradition for me.  We're "over the hump" in terms of the darkness, now we just need to get winter out of here.

Tuesday:  I craftily sneaked an outdoor run between sunrise and an early morning meeting, and by craftily, I mean that I joined the call the second that I stopped my Garmin.  5.25 miles and even though it was windy and my body was bit draggy, I would happily have gone another mile if time had been unlimited.  The meeting went way over schedule, keeping me stuck in sweaty running clothes and being chilled to the bone, but it was totally worth it (the run, not the meeting).

Wednesday: I hit the weights, and by rights it should have been a rest day from running but the weather was way too nice and I felt way too good.  I hit it for 3.25 miles with alternating 0.1 fast/0.1 slow in the 2nd mile.

Thursday, Friday, Saturday...the rest of my fitness week was "a much of a muchness".  We had a white Christmas which was lovely but not compatible with outdoor running.  I ran 3 miles each day on the treadmill, and on the one hand, thank goodness it's an option, but on the other hand...ugh!  My treadmill mojo continues to by MIA.  Got the weights in on Friday as planned.

Sunday: off!

What's Next

Whatever the weather gives me to work with.  Either I'll be outside racking up the miles or inside working on my treadmill 'tude.

  1. I know what you mean about the treadmill. I'm glad to have it but I just haven't been feeling it lately!

    1. Agree...in a normal year I'd be running at least 20 miles a week on it and now 3 miles is a slog. Oh well, I'll figure it out. Or maybe the weather will cooperate and I won't have to, that would be alright as well;-)

  2. Ha Ha. I've done the same with my runs. I run out and then run back and work in my sweaty clothes cuz I have no time to change. Thankfully we use webex and TEAM without the video for the most part.

    1. Totally! I like to be on camera when possible for the human connection but that day I really needed my run.

  3. LOL on timing that run with that meeting! Maybe the endorphins helped you get through it! I know you didn’t like the Peloton app much, but I really like the treadmill workouts. The variety makes the time pass quickly.

    1. I may take another shot at a Peloton run before my trial ends.

    1. Believe me, I have been taking notes when I read your blog. Now it's baby steps from reading to doing.

  5. treadmill 'tude is such a wonderful phrase.
I love those runs where you wish you could go longer because you're feeling strong

  6. Ha ha...my treadmill 'tude is none too pretty, either. I've managed every streak run outdoors thus far (with only five remaining, so I'm grateful Milly didn't have to participate LOL). I'm glad to hear your running mojo staged a comeback, and great job on the strength work!!!

    1. Hopefully Momma N will cut us a break and we can keep our 'tudes intact. I'm at the point where I'm willing to put up with the cold, but I can't do anything with the ice and the foot of snow on top of it.

  7. Ha, I have totally come in from a run, joined a non-video meeting and been stuck in my sweaty clothes longer than planned- it's tough! But also kinda awesome to be WFH and even have that as an option!

    1. Absolutely! This is not the first time and will not be the last, it was just the first time that I kept running literally up to the meeting start time.

  8. I've been using the treadmill for my home WODs but other than that, I've been outside. We've been lucky on the weather front, but I expect that to change!

  9. How nice your running mojo returned! A white Christmas is something we did not get here this year, although there were some small flurries. Oh well, the roads have been amazingly clear which I appreciate, especially for running. I runfess there is someone on one of my conference calls who walks outside and has been known to do snot rockets while on said calls. It is beyond gross.

    1. Yikes! My coworkers and I are all pretty comfortable around each other, but not "snot rocket" comfortable.

  10. Good job getting those weight workouts done! We have meetings at work that start at 7:45, but they want us to use the video. I was happy to see the snow on Christmas. Sadly it has already melted here.

    1. "7:45" and "video" is a harsh combo! Although not as harsh as the prepandemic "get your workout done by 7 and then get your butt to work" situation that used to be normal life;-)

  11. Great job this week! Oh goodness on being cold and wet while on a conference call. At least it was a good run.

  12. I am not a treadmill lover. Fortunately, we can run outside pretty much year-round, so it's not a huge issue, but I do wish I liked it more.

I'm glad your appetite is back!

  13. Yeah I feel the same about my treadmill - grateful to have it as an option, but so not feeling it right now!

  14. Great job on your runs and three weight lifting sessions! You had a great week!

When you figure out how to get a better 'tude when running on your treadmill, let me know. I need a treadmill attitude adjustment as well. ;-)
