Weeky Sweats: Heatwave

In this week's adventures, a spell of nice weather had me far away from the treadmill.  22.75 miles and miscellaneous Peloton adventures ensued.

I'm linking up with the Weekly Run Down, please head over to Kim and Deborah to check it out.

Monday: Peloton strength and 3 treadmill miles.

Tuesday: 4 treadmill miles, with a lot of "30 seconds fast/30 seconds slow".  Peloton yoga at night.

Wednesday: off!

Thursday: I know I said I was only going to run on the treadmill on weekdays in winter, but the weather was solidly "not awful" so I got myself outside!  5.25 miles in leggings.

Friday: was an even nicer day so it was a foregone conclusion that I was going outside.  To my credit I started things off with a Peloton strength workout.  4.25 miles in capris.

Saturday: 50 degrees and light rain?  Don't mind if I do!  6.25 miles in shorts.

I took advantage of a ridiculously downhill mile to show off and get a sub-11 pace.  My body let me know that it's not ready to show off just yet but no regrets.

I also did a few short Peloton yoga workouts at night to get a good stretch on.

Sunday: we're back to leggings weather.  It's tempting to go for a run, but I'm going to play the long con and take a rest day.

What's Next

I plan to continue with short Peloton strength and yoga workouts for the next few weeks.  The workouts that I did this week were a mixed bag BUT I definitely have more mobility and less stiffness in my legs.  Once the 30 day trial period is over I'll make the decision to either continue or move on to something else.  I just need to keep myself honest and make sure that there is a "something else" so that I don't revert back to "just running".

[P.S. I like the freedom/cheapness of doing my own thing, but let's be honest that a smart person in my situation would get some strength coaching.]

Running wise, I'm keeping the mileage relatively low to give myself a break and continue to recover from  the undefined running "blah" that I'm dealing with.  I did not have a mileage goal for the year to start with, but I'm thinking now that I will do a mileage "cap" at a certain upcoming significant number.  That will keep me at high teens for weekly mileage for the rest of December and (hopefully) encourage me to keep at the strength and flexibility work.

That's all I've got for this week!  Thanks for reading my ramblings;-)

  1. You are a smart person for recognizing that strength coaching is the way to go...just saying...

I think the mileage goal is a good idea, especially if you are feeling unmotivated. I feel a little pressured to get my miles in but it would be easy to slack off right now too!

  2. I really like having a strength coach to hold me accountable and to keep progressing my workouts. To me its a better investment than a running coach right now, since I'm not training for anything and can coach myself. Glad you had some nice weather and could run outside this week!

  3. I'm glad that you are finding some Peloton workouts that you like. It definitely takes a little while to find what instructors you like more since they all have their own style.

We had milder weather this week (right now it's about 50 degrees), but we're expecting snow on Wednesday.

  4. Oooh I hope you get a strength coach! I've had a couple of them over the years and they are worth it! Gaining muscle mass is life changing.

  6. 50 degrees and shorts in December! Sounds lovely! I struggle to make strength training a priority, so for me, paying for virtual training has helped because 1- it's scheduled into my day 2- I'm paying for it so I don't want to skip it or waste it. Otherwise, I know I wouldn't do it!

  7. Yay for a warm weather interlude ;-) You probably know how much I enjoyed the Iowa version of that this week ;-) All of our snow is probably gonna be history in a day or so, and I'm quite alright with that!

  8. I suck at strength training but do know that I need to do more than just run. Jealous of your weather to run in shorts!

  9. I am glad that I do have a mileage goal. With this lousy weather I may not have gotten out as often.

We had nice weather and now it's getting colder and colder - not happy!!!

  10. Nice to have a reprieve on the winter temps even if just for a couple of days.

I know that my body is so much happier when I mix in strength & conditioning vs. just running. It took a little bit for me to find a groove with Peloton - so many instructors and everyone's style is different. Hope you find what works best for you!

  11. A strength coach would be really great! I know I do better when I have someone telling me what to do LOL.

  12. I just tried a Peloton Barre class today. I really liked it! I'm not really into the cardio/HITT stuff, so that was just right. Shorts in December is kinda crazy! Great workouts this week!

  13. Great job on your mileage!

We had a beautiful weekend, but then it turned colder and we had a snowy/icy mess on Wednesday.
