A weekly round up: eats, watches, and reads. This week I underestimated the magic of a four day weekend and the amount of Thanksgiving goodies that two people can eat.
My company doesn't have a PTO policy, apart from "as long as the work gets done we don't care". It's been great in previous years but not so great this year when there's no where to go so I just haven't taken any time away from work. I didn't realize until I woke up on Saturday morning that ooh...we'd had two days off and had the luxury of two more to go. Aah the bliss of a double weekend. Not that we "did" anything but it was so nice to have the time off.
Thanksgiving wise, we had a blast. The food already got its own post. I thought that we'd be swarming under the weight of leftovers but we surprised ourselves.
Breakfasts
Ah nothing beats a good ol' smoked salmon bagel. I've been on quite a kick lately, which will come to an end when my wallet gets tired of my craving.
Lunches
Still rocking the sofritas.
Dinners
Monday: leftover chili mac.
Tuesday: leftover cleanup. Hubs had the rest of the chili, the boys had chicken rice casserole, and I had spinach artichoke pasta.
Wednesday: our traditional Thanksgiving Eve dinner is hamburgers, but our schedules made this a fend for yourself night and I didn't feel like grilling a burger for just me. I dipped into the freezer for a veggie burrito.
Thursday: T-Day! The menu and all of the deets are here.
Friday through Sunday: see Thursday. Not one scrap of food went to waste. When the kids came home on Sunday they were just as enthusiastic about our feast as we were.
I ended up making more gravy and baking up another dozen Texas Roadhouse rolls.
Watching
Our Thanksgiving night movie...What We Do in the Shadows
And oh look there's a TV series as well. We're nearly done with season 1.
For my solo viewing, my rule is that if a show doesn't grab my attention from the get-go then I move on pretty quickly. There's just too much good TV out there to stick with something mediocre. I tried The Crown a long time ago and bailed about 20 minutes into the first episode. I love everything royal family but I found it to be slow going and watching King George cough up blood wasn't my idea of a good time. BUT when I saw the season 4 previews they had me first at Diana and then sealed the deal with Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher.
I considered jumping right in to season 4 (I mean it's not like I don't know the story) but decided to take a peek at season 1 again. Netflix picked up right where I left off all those years ago. And...I'm kind of in to it. I surely could have done without King George's lung removal and embalming, and I could use a lot more QEII and a lot less of everyone else, but at the same time I knocked back quite a few episodes over the weekend.
Speaking of the royal family, the treadmill is back in my life for workouts, so I started season 5 of Suits to keep me company.
Reading
I finished The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. I'm on the fence with this one. It started strong, it was a pleasant enough read, but I lost interest as the story went on. ISO the next read.
I loved your Thanksgiving dinner! I had to laugh about your schedule in Excel... that could have been me.
ReplyDeleteEverybody I know tells me to watch The Crown. I will start it after I have finished The Line of Duty. Thank you so much for this recommendation, it is really good! Even my picky husband is enjoying it.
I'm so happy that you guys are watching Line of Duty! Keep me posted! It's the same producers who did the Bodyguard on Netflix.
DeleteOn the flip side, I started Alive at your recommendation. I am hooked!
I loved the first season of the Crown, but the second season (with all new actors) really threw me outta the game. I watched a few episodes, and gave up. But, when I saw Diana was featured in season four, I was all in ;-) I need to seek out Suits...I do a lot of solo time on the elliptical (and now the indoor bike) in the wee hours...I'm almost through the series of Cheers (because that show was so funny, I had to watch it all). I still can't resist a couple episodes of Schitts Creek, though (even though we just recently watched all of them).
ReplyDeleteSuits is a really good treadmill show, and with 9 seasons it will definitely get you through the winter! You are brave with the comedy and cardio combo - I never watch anything funny on the treadmill b/c it hurts so bad to run and laugh at the same time;-)
DeleteI am looking for some new shows to watch as well. I loved suits!
ReplyDeleteI don't know what it is about that show, but it is GREAT for the treadmill. And with 4 more seasons to go it will last me a long time.
DeleteYour food always looks so good! I am now in the mood for bagel with lox too. Our store didn't have the type of lox we like last week but I am going to look again this week. I like mine with some capers and maybe a little chopped tomato too. Everything I have tried on Netflix lately, I am just lukewarm about. I need some inspiration! :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I think I've clicked thumbs down on just about every show on Netflix that isn't Unorthodox, Shtisel, Queen's Gambit, and The Crown. I'm really not that picky, I just need my TV to be more entertaining than staring at the wall.
DeleteI have not seen the movie What we do in the shadows, but I LOVE the TV series!! I am patiently waiting for a new season.
ReplyDeleteOMG please watch the movie ASAP!!! It's even better than the TV show if you can imagine that. We just finished season 1 last night.
DeleteI think I watched almost the entire first season of The Crown and I still baled on it. So sloooow and boring. I am tempted by season 4 though but don't feel right just jumping to it. We just finished Undoing, which was pretty good.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what it is about this show. Like I said, I bailed after the first 20 minutes a few years ago, and YES is is slooow...but for some reason I'm completely hooked now. I'm hearing a lot of good stuff about Undoing, it's on my radar.
DeleteI tried season 4 of The Crown and it just made me so sad. The way they treated Diana...I just can't.
