Weekly Eats: Surviving

A weekly roundup: eats, watches, and reads.  This week's title is a nod to Shaun of the Dead...work has been extreme and about all that I can say is that I am surviving.  I have had the longest work day today so excuse me if this post is a little disjointed (I mean more so than usual), but I felt like popping in to chit chat about food, watching Shaun of the Dead with my family, and an incredible read.

First up: Thanksgiving Plans

We did a number of family gatherings over the summer,  but our state's COVID numbers have gone from "it's not really a thing here" to "yeah, the hospitals are kind of short on beds".  We're back to playing by the rules and will not have an in person family Thanksgiving this year.  Having a vaccine on the horizon helps a lot, we just have to get through this final stretch.

So what are we doing on T-Day?  The same thing we did last year with our "Thanksgiving for Two".  We were way ahead of the curve and didn't even know it.

Breakfasts

A weekend bacon, egg, and cheese English muffin.

Lunches

Salad bowl with leftover barbacoa beef.

And then I made more sofritas...can't stop won't stop.

Dinners

Monday: leftover barbacoa beef.

Tuesday: leftover mishmash.  We had three servings left of Budget Byte's Weeknight Pasta from last week so hubs and the kids polished it off.  I had leftover Cheap Lazy Vegan's 15 minute stir fry

Wednesday: "fend for yourself night".  Hubs had a tuna sandwich, I had the rest of the stir fry.  The kids had dinner with their mom.

Thursday: Costco orange chicken.

Friday: pizza

Saturday: hamburger night!

 Sunday: Chili mac

Watching

Finished season 5 of The Line of Duty.  Seasons 1,2, and 4 of this show are incredible, season 3 is not as good and sorry but season 5...started strong but went downhill.  With that said I will most definitely be watching season 6 next year.

In family TV viewing, I can't believe that I forgot to mention a few weeks ago that we binged an entire TV season in one night as a family.  As soon as I heard that Simon Pegg and Nick Frost had a new show on Amazon Prime, I couldn't get myself and the hubs in front of the TV fast enough.

Now look it's a perfectly fine show, I'd say that if you're a Shaun of the Dead fan you should check it out, but what was amazing is that the kids were way into it.  They were off doing other things when we started watching but came along toward the end of the first episode and it was like they were instantly transfixed.  And so we kept watching one episode after another (it's not a long watch).

So naturally this weekend we broke out Shaun of the Dead, which is up there on my list of favorite movies of all time.  We knew it would be a sure fire hit with the kids...

Oof, we could not have been more wrong.  They were horrified by the glimpse into Adult Dead End Job life.  Once the zombies came into the story they decided to stick around but barely.  They both said that they ending redeemed the movie a bit for them.

On the adult side, we love this movie dearly, but we weren't expecting it to relate so well to the times.  Zombie attacks = media advises everyone to stay at home and not check in on family or go to see them, yep, that's exactly what we're hearing on the news now.

  1. All your food looks so delish! My lunches are boring, but I like them that way (usually a baked potato with pepperoni). I'm looking forward to a wealth of Thanksgiving left-overs this week, though!

    1. Ooh what a good idea. I love a plain ol' baked potato but my family isn't really into them so that would be a perfect lunch for me. I found a really good loaded sweet potato recipe last year but it was a pain to take to work...hey, now that work is at home it's not a problem.

  2. I hope work will get better this week, Birchie. Why does this always happen in short work weeks?

I like your Thanksgiving plans. It's exactly how we would do it (if TG was a thing in Europe).
I'll start Line of Duty tonight. I've finished the Queen's Gambit and it was great!
