Weekly Eats: Regroup Edition

A weekly roundup: eats, workouts, watches, and reads.  This week was all about regrouping from our vacation and getting back into the swing of things. Or what eating looks like when you don't plan anything.

Breakfasts
Lots of breakfast burritos went down this week.  Specifically Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Wednesday: bagel & peach

Saturday: Air fried french toast and chicken sausage

Sunday: very late brunch of breakfast potatoes, salsa, and eggs

Lunches
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: Costco cashew crunch salad with chicken skewers and avocado.

Wednesday: what the what?  A Costco beef bulgogi bowl.  It was pretty good, a decent amount of food for not too many calories.

Friday: Date lunch!  Met my boo at Chick-fil-A.

Saturday: believe it or not, this is a close cousin of the salads - a burrito with the crunch mix, a chicken skewer, cheese, salsa, and sour cream.  Chips and a Holy Guacamole pack on the side.

Sunday: late breakfast/snacks.

Dinners
Monday (family meal): leftover meatballs from the family bash the night before.

Tuesday (family meal): everyone had a leftover twice baked potato, the menfolk had this with Costco chicken skewers, I had a Trader Joe's chicken sausage.

Wednesday (date night): We had two servings of pasta and one serving of meatballs, so hubs had the meatballs and I had a chicken sausage.

Thursday (fend for yourself night): put away another beef bulgogi bowl.

Friday (date night): unpictured Chipotle on the couch with season 3 of Stranger Things.

Saturday (date night): hamburgers with fresh garden tomatoes.

Sunday: we're getting together with family and bringing chocolate chip cookies.

Workouts
29 miles of running and the halfway point of this speed plan.  It was the hottest week of summer yet, with early morning temps already in the high 70's, so I was nervous about how things were going to play out.  I wouldn't say that running in the heat has gotten any easier, but I'm getting through my workouts without getting dizzy, so maybe I have adjusted.

Things that help: I always drink a glass of Nuun before starting - whether it's the Nuun or just the fact that I'm getting an extra 16 ounces of water or both.  I always bring my running water bottle with me even on short runs.  And I rub ice on the back of my neck for a few seconds before starting.

Monday: first workout after vacation and I was not happy about the alarm clock.  The weather played nice and was only 58 degrees, so that helped.  4 miles with 5 x 30 seconds speed/one minute recover.  Quick weight stuff at night.

Tuesday: Hot.  5.6 miles with 6 x 3 minutes speed/3 minutes recover.  Quickie weight workout at lunch.

Wednesday: Super hot, easy 3 miles that were anything but easy.  This run was so bad that all I could do was keep putting one foot in front of the other and laugh it off.  Weights at lunch.

Thursday: This was the workout that I was most looking forward to and was the most nervous about the heat.  It was the hottest morning yet, but there was a nice breeze so the weather just wasn't bad.  5.4 miles with 3 x 8 minutes speed/2 minutes recover.  Not only is 8 minutes the longest speed interval that I've ever done, but I ended up being too fast - not intentionally I just couldn't figure out how to slow down.

P.S. I love even numbers, but I didn't plan the 5.6 on Tues/5.4 on Thurs - it just happened by magic.

Friday: easy 3 miles, I included the neighborhood hill on the route just to add some spice.

Saturday: The low was 80 and there was no way no how that I was going to run outside.  8 miles on the tready with 6 x 30 speed/90 seconds recover.

Sunday: off!

Next week's morning forecasts: high 50s/low 60s!!! Bring it!!!

Watching
From the treadmill: I needed a new treadmill show and found it in Suits.

From the couch: hubs and I finished season 3 of Stranger Things and loved it.

Reading
I went from liking Little Faith to not being able to put it down.  I gobbled up the last half of the book on Sunday night.  Then I read a Best Seller, a book that everyone is just crazy about, which was not for me although it was a fast read and yay from the library.

Next up: The Clockmaker's Daughter by Kate Morton.

  1. Wasn't Little Faith good? You'll have to let me know how you liked The Clockmaker's Daughter. I couldn't finish it. And I usually love Kate Morton's books. :(

    1. Ooh Wendy, I know what you mean. I loved The Lake House but struggled to get through The Secret Keeper. So far Clockmaker is holding up 100 pages in, we'll see.
