Weekly Sweats: Running Company
I'm linking up with the Weekly Run Down, please head over to Kim and Deborah to check it out.
Monday: weights and 4.5 miles easy. Lately I've been running through a cemetery on Mondays, and a large headstone with a small tree in front of it caught my eye from a distance. As I got closer I saw a small brown clump at the base of the stone...oh hey baby deers! I don't often stop to take picture during my runs but you guys were a worthy exception.
(P.S. I've never been sure if it's "OK" to run in cemeteries or not. The only safe place to run or walk near my office is a cemetery and I've had numerous discussions with my active coworkers on this issue. I'd say that we all feel awkward about it but no one has ever come up with a reason why we shouldn't work out there. Thoughts?)
Tuesday: long speed day and I bumped up the reps from a mile to 1.25. 5.5 miles total: 1.25 miles warm up and cool down, and then 2 x 1.25 miles w/0.25 recover.
Thursday: short speed day, with some non-deer company. 5 miles total: 1.5 miles warm up and cool down, and then 4 x 400 fast/400 recover. On the first recovery I walked for a bit and then started a slow jog at exactly the same moment that another runner behind me had started to pass and we ended up running on either side of the path for a moment (my rough estimate is that the path is 3-4 feet wide, so it's common practice for both parties to step to either side when passing). She asked if I was OK with us running together for a few laps and I said yes, and quickly explained my workout. She had enough time left in her workout for 2 reps, which was long enough to figure out that we've run 2 half marathons together and that there is a neighborhood running group. Score! I did some digging into group runs last year and the only ones that I found were some distance away from home or at night, so I am very hopeful that the neighborhood running group will pan out. Stay posted on this one.
Friday: weights and 4.25 miles easy. Well, they would have been easy except that the heat is back. Oh well, summer and all, it's bound to happen.
Saturday: no way, no how on running outside. I grabbed a movie and fired up the treadmill with the goal of running between 6-8 miles. My body said "yo! I need a minute to figure out this treadmill thing" so I called it a day after 4.25 miles.
Sunday: 99.9% of the time Sunday is a rest day but I had a 'lil extra energy and it is still a lot hot out, so I took it back to the tready and 3.5 miles later I finished the movie. Treadmill running motivation is just a bit different than outdoor running motivation;-)
