Picking it up from where we left off last time...we've just had two action packed days in St. Louis and we're now wheels up to Jefferson City.

Friends, we have things to talk about! Buckle in and let me tell you about my latest trip.  It started with a single day event in Chicago, and from there it morphed into a 10 day trip that included a train and Texas.  As if that wasn't enough, I scored big time on the travel hacking front.

Let's Go Places: MegaVacay Wrap Up

 

Oh friends, we've had such a wonderful vacation but all good things must come to an end.  It's now Sunday, and we're going home on Monday.

Let's Go Places: Spring Green, Wisconsin

It's now Friday and exactly one week into MegaVacay 2024.  Our travels are now taking us about an hour west of Madison to the small town of Spring Green.  How small?  Population 1,500.

What's in Spring Green you ask?  If you said Frank Lloyd Wright, then give yourself a gold star.  His ancestors emigrated to the area in the 1800s, and ended up owning a bunch of land here.  In 1911, FLW moved here and built his dream house on a hill, which is called Taliesin (Welsh for "shining brow" as in "the shining brow of the hill that the house is built on").  Spring Green is the ultimate FLW destination.  But wait, there's more...so much more.

Picking it up from last time...we're on MegaVacay 2024 and it is now Wednesday afternoon.  We're zeroing in on our final home base of the trip.  But it's only Wednesday and we're not going home until Monday, so we've got quite a bit of stuff left to see - and people to meet!

Let's Go Places: Two Rivers WI

 

Friends, it's time to continue with the story of Mega Vacation 2024.  We've just spent a few days in Rockford IL and now it's time to go three hours north to the town of Two Rivers WI.

One of the hardest puzzle pieces to fit into place was the Still Bend Schwartz House in Two Rivers, WI.  Two Rivers is about 90 minutes north of Milwaukee, and it is only open three days a week for tours, so I couldn't fit it into my Milwaukee trip last month.  The only reason that I was able to go on this trip is because I had an entire day to devote to getting there and moving on to my next stop.

I had driven too far not to go there, but also I didn't want to go to Two Rivers just to see one Frank Lloyd Wright house.  I hoped that I would find something else to do there as well, but there were so many moving parts to this trip that I had planning fatigue and didn't do any research before I got there.  Spoiler: in this case failing to plan did not mean planning to fail.  I found that special extra thing to fit into the trip.

Friends, it's time to start dishing the deets on Mega Vacation 2024.  If you're new here, the rest of my family spends all of their spare time at Boy Scouts, so I have a lot of solo time on my hands.  When they go camping, I go "glamping" - aka I take solo trips.

In the summer they go on an extended camp, so for the second year in a row, I've gone on an extended vacation.  Last year I did an island bender, and this year I'm doing a Frank Lloyd Wright Binge/Cool Blogger Meetup in northern Illinois and Wisconsin, with a bonus stop in Minneapolis.

Let's Go Places: A Quick Sweep of Toledo, Ann Arbor, and Grand Rapids

It's travel time again!  If you're new here, the rest of my family is heavily involved in Boy Scouts, and I'm not.  That means a lot of time on my hands while they're off doing Scout Things, which I've channeled into local tourism.  When they go away I go away - far enough from home to justify staying overnight, but not so far away that I can't get back in case of emergency.

Normally I do a long weekend trip during their monthly camp outs, but September didn't work for a few reasons.  For the September camp out, we had family coming in from out of town, so home was where I wanted to be that weekend.  Then something unexpected came up that had me making a during-the-week-trip in early October (story coming soon).

But I still wanted to "go somewhere" in September.  I didn't have a long weekend, but I did have something that I wanted to squeeze into this year's travels that required an overnight stay.

So a few weeks ago I made a very rushed trip to Toledo, Ann Arbor, and Grand Rapids.

A Crazy Good Weekend

 

Hey friends, I've been busier/crazier than normal so I've got to drop the weekly posts for a bit.  For the next few weeks I'll just be popping in randomly to talk about this n'that.  Case in point: this post.  Lemme tell you about last weekend.  I went places!  It's a Tale of Two Great Lakes, Family Mayhem, and some FLW on the side.

Weekly Round Up 3 of 3: A Midwest FLW Bender

Let's pick it up right where we left off last time.  Last weekend I combined a trip to my childhood home of Champaign, Illinois with a Frank Lloyd Wright house touring rampage.

It's definitely a "you had to be there" kind of thing, but I wanted to chat about where I went and hit a few highlights of each house.

Weekly Round Up 2 of 2: A FLW Spring Break Bender

 

Picking it right up from last time, our normal thing for spring break is to visit my SIL in Chicago.  We stay in a nice hotel, visit museums, and then go over to her place at night for home cooked meals.

This year my husband is on a tight budget for PTO, so we needed something shorter than a Chicago spree.  I've become an expert at creating long weekend trips, so I gave the fellas a list of ideas from my travels and told them to choose their own adventure.  I was not disappointed at their choice.
