air mouse that I use as a remote for the laptop that's plugged into the TV). Out of six runs, three were good, one was excellent, and the other two were blah, counting down to my Christmas Eve race.
I'm linking up with the Weekly Run Down, please head over to Kim and Deborah to check it out.
Monday: 3 easy treadmill miles, weights at lunch
Tuesday: 4 treadmill miles, breakthrough day! On Tuesday I do a long-ish interval workout and I've been extending the time by a minute each week on the intervals. Last week I was at 3 x 8 minutes at 6.0, which I estimate to be my treadmill equivalent of a tempo run. This week as I closed in on 9 minutes, I knew that I was going to go for it and run 10 minute (1 miles) intervals. Final analysis: 1 mile warm up, 2 x 10 minutes/3 minute recover and then a final 5 minutes fast to get to an even 4 miles.
Thursday: 4 treadmill miles, 1 mile warmup, 3 minutes fast (6.5), 2-3 minutes recover.
Friday: 3 treadmill hill miles, and like last week, the end of my no-break streak on the treadmill. At 2.1 miles, I just needed a moment to get my head right. My hills aren't very intense (alternate one minute at 3% & 6% every quarter mile a.k.a first quarter mile 1 minute at 3% and 2nd quarter mile 1 minute at 6%, etc) but psychologically they are really tough for me.
Saturday: 6 treadmill miles. Ideally I would run outside on weekends, but it was just a tad too cold to get my head around going outside. Or I just really wanted to see the final episode of season 2 of Line of Duty, the show I raved about last week.
By the end of the first mile, I went from being the biggest fan of treadmill running to being sick to death of it. I didn't even try to do the run without breaks, I took my first after 2 miles and liked it so much that I took 2 more. All I can say about this run is it got done.
Sunday: is normally a rest day, but I have a race on Tuesday so I'll be taking Monday off. I went outside for 3 miles and it was absolutely the worst run I've had in months.
Between you and me: I'm secretly delighted that yesterday and today's runs were so tough, that's a good omen for Tuesday's race.
Anyone else feel like if they run badly on race week that it's a good sign and if they run well on race week it's a bad sign?
