Weekly Sweats: Two Reasons

This week's running report: 26.5 miles, 3 strength workouts, and 1 meltdown.

I'm linking up with the Weekly Run Down, please head over to Kim and Deborah to check it out.

This theme of this week's sermon is that there are only two reasons to run.

  1. You want to
  2. Someone is chasing you

I ran short (sorry...I'm very punny) in the "want to" department this week.  It's still winter, and yes I am so flipping happy that we have a treadmill but after 4 straight weeks the enthusiasm is wearing thin.  Something is going down in my work world that isn't good...by all means give me "work" problems over "real" problems any day and I know how to handle the situation but I'm still pissed and let it get to me, which cost me a few nights of sleep.

On the bright side, "bump watch" is looking like a non-event.  Last week I mentioned that I dropped something on my foot that left a bump and was starting to hurt...the bump is still there but the pain is not.  And I'm still loving my new shoes.  Believe me, the glass is half full even if it's frozen and a little salty.

Monday: weights and 4.3 slow treadmill miles

Tuesday: 6.3 steady paced treadmill miles

Wednesday: weights, no running

Thursday: 6.3 miles with a lil' speed to pep things up.  A bunch of one minute fast/two minutes slow.

Friday: Oof!  I did not sleep well due to my work pulling a dick move the previous day.  I zombied my way through strength and 4.3 slow miles.

Saturday: Grr! I can shake off one bad night of sleep but not two.  I knew right away that a long run was out of the question, and the more I thought about it, a short run was equally unappealing.  I simply didn't have a "why" to run...I didn't want to and no one was chasing me.  0.0 miles is always a valid distance.

Sunday: Woot!  I got my sleep and my "want" back.  5.3 miles with a bunch of 30 second speed bursts.

What's Next

More of the same!  The forecast says another indoor week and work is gonna be work.  I'm in a holding pattern on both fronts.  Spring is coming;-)

  1. It is hard to find enthusiasm for the treadmill I get it. Yes, I agree you have to want to run otherwise why do it? Sound like you had a decent workout week despite your work issues. Glad your foot is feeling better that's a plus. Hope you have a better week ahead

    1. It's so annoying that I let it get to me to that extent. Oh well.

  5. Glad that the bump is a non-event and that the shoes are continuing to work. That's all great news!

I hope that things start warming up for you soon, so that you can get off that treadmill and back outside.

    1. Thanks Jenn! I can't believe how consistently bad the weather has been. It's extreme even for here.

  6. Sorry about the work stress. Sometimes it’s so hard to just let.it.go no matter how much you wish you could. Good going logging those treadmill miles AND taking the day off when you’re weren’t feeling it.

    1. Thanks Coco! I was so annoyed when I couldn't sleep (presumably because of the work thing).

  7. I remember this time of year well from my years up north. Everything seems so hopeless and never-ending... but it will end. Spring will be here and everything will look brighter. Hope you have a good week! Good luck with work.

  8. I'm sorry to hear about the work stress. More importantly, at least you are still liking the shoes. :-) I saw a picture of the Launch in the tie dye version and they look so cute! Nope, not buying them...yet. No matter what you are still doing great in your running. Keep it up!

    1. I really like them! I'm looking forward to using up the miles on my old shoes so that I can go entirely to the 8s.

  9. Holding pattern about sums it up! While I am grateful to have a TM, I'm going to run outside as long as it isn't icy. I know once we start that thaw/freeze cycle, there will be a lot of ice--so I'm saving my TM runs for then.

I hope whatever is going down at work resolves soon!

    1. Yeah, we've been stuck with ice for a while. We've had quite a few sunny days this week so I'm hopeful it will melt away soon.

  10. I have a treadmill now but it didn't come with extra enthusiasm to run on it...a combination of stress and bad sleep doesn't help AT ALL.

hopefully a better week is in store for you. x

  11. Oh no, I'm sorry work is being a jerk! Hope things smooth out and you can get back to a normal work/rest balance.

You got in some decent treadmill miles last week. I'm scheduled to spin with a friend via Zoom shortly, but it's supposed to get up to 50° today so I may run later, too, before our next snow/ice storm hits tomorrow night into Thursday.

    Have a great week!

  12. This weather has got to end sometime, right?! At least you have the treadmill option which is a total lifesaver. Great job keeping up with the weights.
